Now I can be the Queen Bee

I made a purchase today.  Check it out:

I also purchased the most wonderful soap and candle a few weeks back and forgot to give kudos to the seller.

If you click on the pictures, it will bring you to the listing for the items.  Below are the links to the stores.

I decided today was going to be a "clean-a-little-draw-a-lot-day."  I have ideas for new quilts and I have to get them down on paper.  Space is limited in this ol'cranium.

Since I haven't posted any crafty stuff lately, I will post my preliminary sketches once I have some.  Hopefully there will be a few to post tomorrow.

Good Morning--err, afternoon...

Wow, the morning flew by!

Just wanted to drop in and say...

WE SIGNED THE LEASE TO THE HOUSE WE WANTED!

Yeah, I know it isn't as exciting as buying, but I'm pretty darn tickled, anyway!

Also, I wanted to mention I'm breaking up my previous shop into two.  Now, for jewelry and accessories, go to Smooshy.  For fabric art, go to Fisheyes and Magpies.  Both shops are still being worked on, and there's no new inventory as of yet...BUT, there are wonderful ideas up in my head and as soon as this moving business is over, expect a craft explosion!  :)

Did I mention that there is enough space in this new house to allow me my own studio space?  Did I?  I am absolutely beside myself!  Now, finally, I can take my business seriously!

Oh, and if I didn't mention it, my move-in date it set for April 12th.  I have a lot of packing to do!

Well, wonderful readers (all two of you), I will see you later!  I have already piddled most of my day away and I NEED to get to the grocery store before I pick up Sean from school!

Bye, Skully!

The skull has been purchased, and sent!  (Thanks, Grace!)

I liked him a lot and I'm definitely going to make more for my shop.  Like I said before, skeletons are fun!  :)

I also have some kid-related wall hangings in mind.  I've been thinking about them all day.  (And I dreamt of them this morning when I took my early-morning-just-dropped-Sean-off nap.)  They won't be quilts, so much as softies that you can hang on the wall.  You'll see.

I also have another idea for a mini-quilt--child-related also.  This one will be large enough for baby, yet small enough to hang on the wall after baby is no longer a baby.  Make sense?

Now, the only question is, which will I do first?

Wow! I'm on a Roll!

Today I finished my "Day of the Dead" mini quilt!  :)  Woo-hoo!  I'm getting quick, huh?  It's already up on my shop, and can be found...right...here.  (Although he looks angry, he's actually very sweet!)

Here's a picture of the full quilt:

And here are two close ups:

I love him!

BTW, today is Saturday, and I'm on the Storque showcase again!  :)

That is all I have for now.  I should be planning my grocery trip, but I'm tired, and the hubby's taking care of the kids, so I think I'll take a nap.

And thank you for the extras! ;)

That's Happy House Quilts, for those of you looking for something really pretty to buy! :)  You can also visit her blog.

It's not easy being green...

And these cards from gogoabigail are cool (and weird...):

Can you guess the theme?  :)  One of my future projects will involve frogs.  Frogs are fun, right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I haven't started my next project yet, but I definitely thing I'm going to go with a mini-quilt depecting a cavalera.  I already have my sketch and have been planning my colors, and after I get back from my appointment, I'll start picking out my background fabric.  Maybe later I'll have a progress pic, or at least I'll post my design.
Teacup Mouse: COMPLETE
Okay, I stuck with the stupid name.  I couldn't think of anything else to call her.
Check out the etsy listing here
That idea I spoke of this morning--the one that I woke up with?  All I can remember now, is that it was a pumpkin.  And it was smiling.  All the details--gone!  This is why I should have a sketch pad next to my bed.
I had another Halloween-y idea--Day of the Dead Skeleton.  I was about to do research, when Calamity Kim beat me to the punch and posted about it.  Thanks Kim!  :)  I don't know if that'll be my next project.  I want to give it some more thought.  That, and it's kinda late in the day to start something new.  (Don't ask why, but I only start projects in the morning.  I'm weird like that.)
So, tonight will be brain-storming, designing, and drawing.  I'll come up with a few different ideas, then decide from there.  Then, tomorrow, I bust my butt--Damn!  I forgot!  I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow!  Well, I'll try to get some work done before my mom pops by to watch Aaron.  I HAVE to get more projects done.  My Storque Showcase is Saturday, and I want at least one more mini-quilt for my store!
In other etsy news, a few of my listings are going to be expiring next month.  I've decided I'll reduce some of the stitch markers and earrings and..........do a giveaway!  :)  Hmmm....Should I make you guys work for the booty?  A contest, maybe?  I don't know.  We'll see... (Stay tuned!)
Anyhow, that's all I have for now.  Off to promote myself at etsy.  Have a great night, all!
September 17, 2007
Woo Hoo!!!
I just scored two Storque Showcase spots at etsy! (The showcase is at the bottom of the page. :)  Yay!  One is for tomorrow, and one for the 22nd (Saturday).  I gotta get cracking!  I want to add some more items before Saturday, because I'm not happy with what's up there now.  (Boring stitch markers...LOL)
Also, I just sold my "One, Two, Buckle my Shoe" wall hanging!  :)  I hope she likes it!  I'm leaving in just a few minutes to send it out.  I've been waiting for the showcase to open so I could buy spots, and now I'm free to leave!!  (Did I mention I bought some showcase spots?  hahaha)
BTW, in case I didn't mention it, the wall hanging was custom made for Jenn and I'm more than happy to do custom orders for anyone else!  Just go to my shop and contact me!  (BTW, Jenn has a great shop, too!  Personally, I think she's way more talented than me, and am honored she would order one of my items!)
Anyhow, I have more pictures of the bird mini-quilt, but, as I said, I'm in a rush, so I'll post those later.  I'm also going to post GOOD pictures of the shoe quilt that sold.  I have some beautiful close ups of the detail work I did.
Later!!!
August 01, 2007
Maybe a lazy day?
Maybe not.  I thought today would be spent at home, but I'm out of milk.  I need a small buckle.  I should probably go ahead and order Sean and Lucy's birthday cake.  (We're having the party Saturday.)  PLUS, I need to clean.  (The cleaning won't take so long.)
But Lazy?  I wish.  I spent the day out yesterday with my mom, shopping for Sean and my niece, Lucy.  We're having their party on Saturday, and so far, so good!  Shopping is done!  Party decorations, bought!  I still have to wrap, and as I mentioned above, order the cake.  Other than that, though, Sean is no longer sick.  (Incidentally, he spent the entire weekend sick.)  I'm looking forward to the party now!  I'll definitely take lots of pictures!!
I'm working on something new for my etsy shop.  The last few weeks I've thought of my shop with dread.  Where's the pizazz?  What will get sales?  I've been putting together these earrings and stitch markers, which are, yes, pretty, but these things are a dime a dozen!  ANYONE can put together a pair of beaded earring.  You load your headpin with beads, make a loop at the top and voila!  You have an earring.  Quite honestly, I've become just a little bored.  It's just become assembly.  There is really no creativity involved.  Then I started to think of my sewing.  The few items I've sewn in the last few weeks have involved nothing more than piecing fabric together.  Again, nothing special.  I haven't felt very passionately about anything I've made yet.  So what's a girl to do?
Buckle_my_shoe_001a
I started to think.  I love picking out interesting beads and baubles.  I love buckets of assorted buttons.  I love ribbon and fabric remnants.  And, if I think back--way back--before I had a husband and kids and was still in High School, I wanted to be an artist.  (Or a writer, but that's another post.)  I was voted Most Creative in my graduating class.  I was chosen by my teachers to be included in a 1996 issue of Coast Magazine's Best of the Class of '96.  (I represented my school under the title "Most Artistic.")  I won contests.  I was compiling a portfolio.  Everyone was sure I'd apply to art school.  You know what I did?  I joined the Air Force after I graduated.  It was a spur of the moment decision, brought on by complicated paper work for scholarships and grants, and by the need to move out.  (BTW, I don't regret joining the military.  It was a wonderful experience, and I met my husband there!)  After joining the AF, there was no time for creativity or art and eventually I stopped painting and drawing.  (Wow, that's a lot of back story, huh?)
Since then, I've dabbled in the creative arts.  It's still hard with two children and no studio.  (All I want for Christmas is my OWN SPACE!)  The desire to create is still there.  This is evident in my many hobbies--all of which are crafts.  It's just hard to find something that makes me feel like the teenage me--the one who thought she was good enough to make something of her life.
So, back to etsy--I decided that if I were to make this work I'd have to find something that engages my imagination.  Something that is not "run of the mill."  Something that takes time and skill to complete.  Something worth buying.  Here is a sneak peak at my next project:
Buckle_my_shoe_001
Less assembly, more art.  This is going to be wall art when it's finished.  (It's a girl's shoe, btw.  It's missing it's strap and buckle, but it'll be a little mary jane.)
In addition to using all the materials I love, I want to add paint and a few other elements to my work.
I have to give credit to my inspiration, though, because I didn't think this all up myself.  I've been visiting Calamity Kim's site for a while now, and her art ALWAYS leaves me feeling little more than a child playing with some beads.  She does a lot of quilts and paper art.  She also constructs some AMAZING stuffed bears!  I highly encourage you to check out her site--and scroll down!  Look at all her projects, because they are ALL just wonderful!  (She's my idol!)
I've also been inspired by Cloth Paper Scissors, which is a wonderful magazine about collaging.  If you have a chance to thumb through an issue, you'll find beautiful and imaginative collages made of cloth and paper.
So there it is!  My wares will be changing.  I'll still sell the stitch markers and earrings, but I want to direct my shop towards items that you can't run down to Target and pick up for five bucks.  And who knows?  Maybe I'll eventually start painting again.
(And I'm also knitting--I promise!  That damn Lacy shrug is kicking my butt, though, and the yarn and I aren't currently speaking.)
Oh!  And I wanted to say "thank you" to all who commented on my last post.  It was nice to hear your encouragement!  I love comments and appreciate them all.
