There will be some changes...
On my other blog, Peachtree Knitter, I talked about a decision I made yesterday that has to do with my etsy shop.
Right now, I'm not happy with my shop. I feel like an assembly worker, mindlessly putting together earrings and stitch markers. I've had ONE sale since posting my first items in June. When I look at what I'm selling, I can see why. The stuff I'm selling can be bought at a department store for five bucks. (Excluding the stitch markers--decorative ones are hard to come by.) I can claim they are one of a kind. The odds that someone will make earrings with the exact combination of beads are really, really slim--but there is a chance. It's just loading beads on a head pin. That's it.
I decided I want to make art. Textile collages. I want to take my favorite materials and turn them in to something that is TRULY one of a kind! THAT is what I would buy at etsy.
If you are interested in the whole story (and it's a long one) you can check out the link to my blog at the beginning of this post, but if you are interested in the short version, here it is:
I used to want to be an artist. Everyone thought I would be an artist. Life happened, and art was replaced with responsibility and parenthood. I still feel inclined to create art, though. Simple earrings are not art. Plain aprons--again, not art. New inventory of store--art. (Or artful. I might still make aprons and such, but they will be embellished to the hilt!)
I'll continue to sell earrings and stitch markers, but they won't be the focus of my store.
Here is a sneak peek at my current project:
Oh, alright. Here's a zoomed out picture:
Stay tuned--you won't be disappointed!!
BTW, if you read my other post, I give a shout out to Calamity Kim. I'm thinking of featuring her in a post. Her work is beautiful!
